I love you
without modifiers,
without anything
additional, optional—

like the skeleton
of a sentence,
the essentials of meaning.

I love you
with nouns and verbs
and prepositions,

with the barest
of intentions,
a paring down
of poetry,

a grammar of my own design
in which everything
is integral
and necessary.
what is up with all of these love poems lately?

I also wrote my first spoken word poem today (!!!!!) and I'll work on getting that up on YouTube within the next couple of days. it's really personal and intense and I'm pretty proud of it.

a love poem for linguist... the thing is, they probably don't know anything about love... only how it is structures, focussed, worded in a text... they could analyse the text but never live the love

...I don't understand how linguists are incapable of feeling love.

happy birthday :airborne:

because they tend to overanalyze all signs... interpreting them as a sort of communication. they never just love, just feel... and they should do just that.

A wonderful approach. Too often the 'overly florid' approach is taken, and exuberance and enthusiasm considered a valid substitute for precision and meaning. Well, this is the cure for all that :)

Okay, I know this sounds loopy, but it reminds me of Dorothy Parker's "Little Words" for some reason. No idea, specifically, why but it does.

Not an accusation or anything! Just saying. Did I mention that I always had a soft spot for Parker's poem? Remarkably romantic for her, really.
