in the narrow crevices
between silver eyelashess
and the shallow gashes
in ivory skin.
she collects heartstrings
like ribbons tied around her
wrists,
snowdrops at her fingertips
and birds in her hair.
a touch of something darker
glimmers in her eyes,
reminding me that I am caged-
yet I cannot feel but free.

Caged
Have you ever been locked in a cage?
I have.
Dog crates can be unlatched from the inside.
I can pop out ceiling tiles over an equiptment cage.
With determination, I can scale a barbed wire fence.
Every physical cage I have been in, I've found a way out of.
But not all cages are physical.
For years I was trapped in a cage called Abuse.
Through fear and "respect", I was unable to fight.
Another cage layer was depression.
With time they were unlocked
By an unknown keeper of keys.
There is one cage today
That still locks me tight.
It wards away hugs, and kisses, and love.
For years I have tried to break out
Of this cage some say I

The Suicide
Slit my wrist,
I lay to die.
Out of my mind.
Yet the body stays stiff like cement.
Please,I beg you dear,
leave your sins at the door.
Where 'O' where is your God ?
After life, after no life at all.
Now, or, then.
Came the funeral.
Beautiful when dead.
He kissed my lips
So pale, dark eyes, red lips,
black dress.
I lay in the box.

Risking Heaven
The day you signed the recruitment forms
You said you felt like you'd sold your soul.
But you cried the night before basics
So I knew it was still in there
But somewhere in the marching
And the running and the shouting,
The gunshots and the dust and blood
Somewhere
It was lost.
You were lost.
Show me the contract
And I'll sign away my soul
Because we used to say we'd brave hell together
If it meant we'd never be apart
And I won't risk heaven
If you might not be waiting
