The myth of Andromeda: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromed...
A lot of the traditional paintings of Andromeda are just weirdly sexualised. Like, I get that it's a naked woman chained to a rock, but in so many of these paintings her poses are the traditional "oh, woe is me, but look how sexy I am" kind of rubbish. She is about to be eaten by a sea monster. She should not be presented as some perfect, pale, unnaturally hairless body just chilling out waiting to die and, while she's at it, being sexually idealised for the male gaze. She is going to be sacrificed. This is not sexy, it's horrific.
Examples of paintings that annoy me: www.wikipaintings.org/en/theod...www.shafe.co.uk/art/Poynter-_A...
And don't even get me STARTED on the modern illustrations.
Examples of ones that got the pose/expression right even though she's still hairless for some reason (???): www.wikipaintings.org/en/gusta...framingpainting.com/painting/a...
I wanted to present Andromeda as a strong woman, not just an object of sacrifice, and thus this song. I'm also thinking about a painting of my own...hm.
